In recent years we have seen how design on mobile phones has become increasingly important. There are not a few users who value this above such supposedly relevant aspects as the quality of the screen or the type of processor.
Brands know this, and that is why they often launch special editions. This is the case of OnePlus, which has just presented the OnePlus Nord 2 x PAC-MAN, a special edition of its most relevant mobile in value for money, inspired by the classic video game.
A software experience turned into a game.
But the most significant difference between this special edition and the normal one is inside, in the software.
OnePlus has wholly modified Oxygen OS by customizing the wallpapers or icons and the interface, which now uses the yellow and blue colors so characteristic of PAC-MAN.
Even the mobile’s power-up has been customized, telling a story about how PACMAN lands in the world of OnePlus and has to move forward.
To do this, the user must carry out many actions to unlock prizes, such as wallpapers, etc.
For example, we have used the fast charge Warp Charge that this terminal has, and by doing it for more than 256 minutes, we have unlocked a PAC-MAN-inspired charging warning design and stickers.
It also includes the PAC-MAN 256 game; although it is not free of in-app purchases, it would have been a detail considering that this edition is somewhat more expensive than the standard model. And no, the LEGO-like brick base is not included in the package. It would have been fine.
Is it worth paying more for the OnePlus Nord 2 x PAC-MAN?
OnePlus has established the price of this terminal at 529 euros. Keep in mind that, although the normal OnePlus Nord 2 starts at 399 euros, that is the model with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory, while the 12 and 256 GB one costs 499 euros.
That is to say, and it is 30 euros different from what we will pay to have the particular version.
I think it’s a fair price, considering what changes in the mobile. Of course, we have to like the PAC-MAN game or have a different terminal, and it will be rare that we come across someone with this edition.
A new design but very elegant
The first is to modify the external aspect, although with great care. We are not facing one of those mobile phones with bright colors and extravagant elements—quite the contrary. If we don’t look closely, this model may even go unnoticed.
Outwardly we see how the back, in a very light blue color, has serigraphy in the form of dots that imitate the ones we have to collect in PAC-MAN.
In addition, under the camera is the famous Pac-Man, and serigraphy with the model’s name is next to it. Interestingly, what most calls my attention is the OnePlus logo, in a black color that stands out and is placed in the lower right corner.
The only color accent is the Alert Slider button, which is deep blue and allows you to switch between silent, vibration, and sound modes.
But the most striking is hidden, and we will have to turn off the lights to see it. The device glows in the dark and displays a pattern on the back that mimics the game’s mazes in three-dimensional form.
