Porsche Design Acer Book RS Review

Porsche Design Acer Book RS Review

While some brands dress their devices with the designs of fashion references, others opt for a safe bet: the sophistication of the aesthetics of Porsche luxury cars. Huawei, for example, currently has the Huawei Mate 40 RS Porsche Design phone and the Watch GT 2 Porsche Design smartwatch in its catalog. And the Taiwanese brand Acer has also succumbed to the charms of the German firm to conquer executives and other professionals who identify with elegance, sportsmanship, and exclusivity. Maybe for the car, it doesn’t give you the budget, but for the laptop, it does.

Equipment prepared to win races

Performance, reliability, speed… No, I’m not talking about Porsche cars, but about the components of the Porsche Design Acer Book RS laptop. The equipment is the company’s first with the EVO platform. Computers with this certification guarantee that it is a high-performance devices. This model comes with an eleventh-generation Intel Core i7, 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage, and an Nvidia GeForce MX350 graphics card. A top-of-the-line engine rolled down the hood for premium bodywork. You step on the accelerator with a thousand and one open browser tabs, several applications running, and everything runs smoothly. It is also the latest in connectivity with Wi-Fi 6.

Taycan-like autonomy

The Porsche Taycan, the prestigious manufacturer’s commitment to electromobility, is among the cars with the most autonomy on the market, with 450 kilometers per charge, although far from the Tesla Model S (610 km). Something similar happens to the Porsche Design Acer Book RS: it’s not one of the best, but it lasts for many hours of a working day on a single charge. In the tests to write this review, its battery has given for just over seven hours playing YouTube video (with the brightness at medium level, the sound at 25, and configured at maximum performance). Compared to other equipment we have subjected to the same analysis, it falls very short, such as the LG Gram (11 hours) and Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 (more than 16 hours). With the power-saving setting, it lasts seven and a half hours playing video. And simply turning it on, without performing any tasks or playing any content, lasts about 8 hours.

Acer includes two chargers in the box, one to connect via USB-C with a design and size similar to that of phones and another with a conventional, more extensive, and heavier appearance. The lightest one is perfect for taking everywhere and the other one to always have at hand in the office or home. Both take the same time to charge the battery: just two hours.

The laptop incorporates an instrumental detail that not all have: when charging, a tiny red light on the right side lights up, which changes to blue when it finishes filling the battery. This way, you know when it has finished charging without turning it on.

The Porsche Design Acer Book RS laptop in this analysis costs 2,199 euros, a price that is not surprising knowing that it is a product of the Porsche factory. The exclusivity and sophistication are paid for. Its carbon fiber cover falls in love (not so much the keyboard) with discreet elegance and premium materials. It will fit you if you are looking for a device with an exquisite design, surprising lightness, and advanced technical specifications. Autonomy is not one of its strong points, although it does not have to be a problem considering how quickly the battery charges.

With the signs of identity of the cars

The design of the Porsche Design Acer Book RS does not differ in its basics from other products from the Porsche Design studio: the black color, in this case of the carbon fiber that adorns the top cover, combined with the silver of the aluminum of the frame and the magnesium from the magnesium “body.” The result is a team with refined lines without losing resistance and a lightness you do not expect. Although it weighs 1.2 kilos – similar to other 14-inch models – the sensation when gripping it is that of a higher light laptop. However, to the touch, it feels very similar to plastic without being this material. Due to its dimensions (209.2 mm x 318.7 mm x 15.99 mm), it is a very manageable device when traveling.

The carbon fiber lid looks spectacular, and it certainly gives it a unique look, unlike all the others, further highlighted by the silver stripe with the Porsche Design brand embossed in capital letters. The Acer logo goes very unnoticed with the black letters on the part of the carbon fiber of the same tone.

The 14-inch IPS panel touchscreen is framed with aluminum and has an anti-fog coating. Bacterial, something always welcomes these times, although it does not get rid of fingerprints. In the resolution, it stays at Full HD, which is not bad, it shows everything correctly, but it is not the best; it does not stand out in this component. It complies to watch movies and surf the internet without more.

The backlit keyboard has been comfortable for me to write, both because of the size and when pressing the keys, which, although they do not feel hard, do not reach the softness of those of the LG Gram 17 either, which I found incredibly pleasant. The touch panel works precisely and houses the fingerprint reader, an essential element in a team for professionals that points to the highest range in many of its features and, above all, in design.

Porsche Design Acer Book RS

Without being one of the most complete in terms of connections, it offers everything you may need, including an HDMI, in addition to a USB-C/Thunderbolt, two USB-A, and a headphone jack. And since you don’t want your beloved laptop stolen, integrate the Kensington security connector (on the right side) to put a lock on it if you wish.

In addition to a Porsche-stamped skin, the team comes with a matching wallpaper with this same aesthetic (and for its price, it could already bring some more). Like any good suit, this Acer model is complemented with matching accessories (optional): a spectacular mouse, a sleeve, a mousepad, and a travel bag.
